Self-Disclosure EveryDIE

Self-Disclosure is defined as the sharing of personal information with others and is intentional, important, and usually unknown to the other party. Once in a while, we just have to unload our thoughts and feelings to a certain someone. Our brains and hearts can only take so much that we have to share our emotions with other people. However, one does not keep sharing every personal detail about themselves to just about everyone! Believe ot or not, this has guidelines as well.

Firstly, before you share the color of your underwear (whoa! that rhymes), you must ask yourself the significance of the other person to you. Is he/she as important as your spouse, or just some guy/gal you met at a club? You have to make sure he/she is important to you and you trust him/her, coz this is your emotions and feelings we're talking about!

Secondly, think if this info you're about to drop on him/her is is reasonable. Does he/she have to know this? If so, what's its relevance? Then you have to know how much of the info you want to tell him/her. Should you state everything or just a trifle?

You also have to make sure that you get your share of dirt too. You can't just keep sharing stuff about yourself and let the other party gobble it up without them saying something about themselves. After your confession, you must ask them questions like, "so how's your job coming along?" or "What about you? getting some?"

Make sure what you said is constructive as well. Don't just keep blabbing and ruining everyone's lives. Try to find the relevance and purpose of what you're about to say before you say it.

Most importantly, always make sure what you just said is what you just said. Recall if what you disclosed is actually what you wanted to share and no exaggerated or extra stuff was added. This is important for the other party's answer or reply to your disclosure might be affected.

Yes. Make sure you follow these steps before you disclose anything to anyone. oh, and note, this is something that shouldn't be done ALL THE TIME. Once in a while is okay and appropriate. I believe that self-disclosure is very valuable and important, and if we keep doing it, it just looses its shine. It'll be an everyday thing and won't be special anymore. so yeah! Do it wisely!

Peace and Love :)>-
