Ferdinand Marcos

Power can sometimes lead to leadership...for example... Ferdinand Marcos
Ferdinand Marcos became one of the presidents in the Philippines. He has legitimate power since he was elected by the people. He was chosen by the people to lead their country. Also, Ferdinand Marcos is knowledgeable enough to be the president... this is one of the criteria why people voted for him. But, as time passes by he became a tyrant leader, he possessed coercive power where he rules using threats.

Ferdinand Marcos was voted twice as president. People nowadays believe that he used threats so that people will vote for him once more. During his regime, people are not allowed to voice out their thoughts. People he disliked were killed immediately. As for his wife, she closed all the shoe stores where she brought shoes in so that people have the same shoes as hers. I can say Marcos used coercive power throughout his reign therefore making people angry. the people created a revolution known as the edsa 1 where i can say could be a growth group or a problem-solving group. as a result, Marcos was thrown out as presidency and the people elected a new leader.

Marcos' reign is pretty interesting and how people tried to stop him and went against him... one of the most interesting history of the Philippines:)

Personal Overview

Ta da~~~
Here comes the last blog for human communication.
First of all, to conclude, it was really a nice subject personally. The subject was the most enjoyable one compared to my three other subjects.
Human communication, I do not think that what was covered in the syllabus was enough to totally let one know and understand about human communication, human communication can be almost anything, anywhere, constantly happening. However, it indeed made me understand more about myself, and some general behaviors of others as individuals or group. With what I have learnt, I hope that I am able to carry myself better as an individual in society and all other related aspects. Communication starts off within oneself, spreading on to others like a wild fire. Direct or indirect, communication goes around.
In a way, being in human communication course, I felt that my communication skills with others had indeed improved. I hope my other class mates have somehow gained something from this course, not just merely taking it as a subject we need to pass to grad out foundations. ‘
Lastly, thank you to all my group mates and class mates and lastly Mr.Murali for everything.

Groups

Throughout most stages of our lives in modern day society, it is becoming almost a norm to see people in groups or working in groups. From my tertiary education’s concept, I am already being exposed to working in group for coursework’s or assignments. I totally agree that being in a group, it is a NEED to have and work towards a common goal. Any sidetracks will definitely bring the whole group down.
However, I personally feel that each group that you have joined, will definitely not be the same or similar as previous ones. It can be simply concluded with the fact that there are no 100% similar individuals any where, not even twins.
Of course, haven experienced so many different groups; there are good encounters and bad ones. But either way, the problem needs to be solved when it is popped up. I see myself most of the time as the one resolving any problems or difficulties along the way towards group’s goal. Normally, I prefer to settle things or finalize things. Hence what I always do is be the one that compiles or does the final check before handing over the assignment or an event at hand.
It is most crucial for one to be able to work in group. What I suggest is each individual has their own strengths and weaknesses. It is best to identify them as soon as possible, making it known to others when you are working in a group. It will definitely help when tasks are being distributed. One should also learn to be assertive, daring to speak out one’s thought, but not being aggressive.

Cheers.
P/S : There is no shame in letting others know about your weaknesses in working as a group. The group is only as strong as its weakest link.

survive and conquer

Most of the games that i know involve surviving and conquering the opponent. most video games like counterstrike, dotA, gears of war and resident evil have a specific goal... which is to defeat the enemies and survive throughout the game.

Most of them involve two or more players. each individual has his or her own goal... which is to survive and attain the highest score. For their group goal, they should finish each objectives in order to advance to the next level. For resident evil as an example, the start player should survive and look after his partner so they can both work together to finish and reach their goals which is to save the world from the undead or zombies and alienated creatures.

Some video games requires group work. they usually belong to social groups where interaction is needed... for some it could also be a learning group where people learn how to cooperate and be strategic... who says we can't learn anything from playing video games?:) just an important reminder, know your priorities before playing... play moderately!:)

For my human communication group... although we experienced a lot of challenges making our projects like arranging meetings and doing our group projects... i learned a lot from them... i consider them as my learning and growth groups. they taught me a lot of things. to survive throughout the hell weeks and to conquer the deadlines of the projects. we were able to reach our goals( to submit the project on time and to learn from each other). I would want to thank them as well as my human communication teacher, mr. murali, for improving my communication skills and for enhancing my knowledge about communication. i can truly say that this is a well-learned experience for me.

Group / Teamwork – in Sports

Well, I just got back from a long weekend having my competition. It was a well memorable experience this time with me as my team representing Help fared quite well on our first outing as a team in the competition.
To be in relevant, these three days, what I had been through with the team was remarkable. We were made up of combination on different level of players from different states in Malaysia. We got together to play competitively only for the first time. But surprisingly, we performed as if we were playing together as a team for so long.
In this scenario, I see our teamwork as the best among all the other teams. We had a common goal, which was trying to win the competition. All those in the team were either scholarship holders or those that are applying for it. Hence the outcome of this competition would aid them in the future in applying for the Help scholarship. With that in mind, everyone in the team played their hearts out and did their best.
Our common goal was simple, try and win the competition. It was quite a tedious task as there were 16 participating teams being divided in to 4 groups. Only the top two teams of each group advances into quarter finals. From quarter final onwards, it is knockout out system until the finals, in other words, to win this competition, you will need to win all of your matches.
Having the basic game senses for the sports itself, and with certain game plans and strategies we had discussed each time before a match brought us well. Every player performed their role, followed the strategies planned and voila, Help team came up as the champion although participating it for the first time under Help tag.
To me personally, there is no way one playing as an individual in their team will able to make it far in a competition of team sports. The saying of “you are only as strong as your weakest link” was instilled into everyone of us and we covered each other’s back during the game.
This weekend is indeed an unforgettable one for me n my mateys

Cheers

DotA

playing LAN games promote social groupings. it is a type of social group where people meet while playing the game. there are a lot of ways how people meet each other in this online game-DOTA. People who plays Dota invites other people to play...the more the merrier..take it from me who plays :)

the group goal of this game is to conquer the opposite side.
Have a Beyond god-like player and of course defeat the enemy

non verbal communication

Non verbal communications are messages expressed by others than words. Non verbal communication expresses meaning and feelings through body language like body movement, facial expression and eye contact. This communication normally happens unintentionally but some people do it intentionally. Non verbal communication has a greater impact to people compared to verbal communication. This impact happens when verbal and non verbal communication cues are contradictory. Non verbal communication is important especially in high-context culture. It is important because it has multiple functions. One of its functions is to repeat verbal message, for example when a person is directing someone for direction. Its second function is that it is used to accent a verbal language, for instance the tone of the speaker’s voice. Another function of it is that it substitutes verbal messages, for example a listener shakes his head as a respond to the speaker when he doesn’t get the message from the speaker. There are 10 types of non verbal communication.
