non verbal communication

Non verbal communications are messages expressed by others than words. Non verbal communication expresses meaning and feelings through body language like body movement, facial expression and eye contact. This communication normally happens unintentionally but some people do it intentionally. Non verbal communication has a greater impact to people compared to verbal communication. This impact happens when verbal and non verbal communication cues are contradictory. Non verbal communication is important especially in high-context culture. It is important because it has multiple functions. One of its functions is to repeat verbal message, for example when a person is directing someone for direction. Its second function is that it is used to accent a verbal language, for instance the tone of the speaker’s voice. Another function of it is that it substitutes verbal messages, for example a listener shakes his head as a respond to the speaker when he doesn’t get the message from the speaker. There are 10 types of non verbal communication.
