Naughty Naughty Language :>
What if you were Brenda and some guy named Jake said this to you. You'd feel offended probably. I'd feel offended and angry!!! X-( Almost every word that came out of Jake's mouth sounded so unappealing. I would appreciate his honesty, I really would, but it just gets me so angry. Who can save me now?
tun-tun-nu-nuuun!!! Euphemisms! 8D yey!
Jake made terrible mistakes on what he said. We should totally use euphemisms to fix his statement. Euphemism is the substitution of words to better sounding ones (so the other person won't get offended), but still maintain the same meaning.
ex:
Toilet--> Washroom
He's dead ---> he bought the farm
cemetery operative ---> gravedigger
Lord Voldemort ---> he-who-must-not-be-named
so yes, let us fix Jake's statement...
"Hey Brenda, your make-up sucks! Go to the toilet and fix that face, yo!"
to
"Hey Brenda, I think your make-up needs a little more pizazz! Why don't you go to the washroom and check up on it, yo?"
yey! We just saved Jake's relationship! 8D

What's Your Flavaaa? \:D/
I hate it X-( so I'm not gonna blog about it, haha! Guess what I'm gonna blog about? yup, you guessed right! Personal Listening Styles!!! So what's your Personal Listening Style Flava? :>
1) Content-Oriented
This style is for people interested in facts. This is advantageous in those crazy Human Com lectures, where we have to listen to the content and facts Mr. Murali feeds us.
2) People-Oriented
Now this style is leaned towards emotions. This is good for therapists and teachers so they can understand a person more.
3) Action-Oriented
Soldiers and policemen need this the most for this style is based on tasks. A good ear and a fit body is needed for overcoming those tedious tasks.
4) Time-Oriented Listening
Students and teachers have to conform to this or they will die. This style is based on deadlines and how people should follow them. If we don't obey deadlines, we could get kicked out of school or even get fired from a job!
so yes, these are the four Personal Listening Styles. What is the best style you ask? well, if you ask me, we should posses all these styles in order to be a well oiled and fully-functional human being. A mixture of these styles is needed so we can transcend the boundaries of everyday life!
Anyway, here's the What's Your Flava video. I hate the song, but the video is pretty cool. A lot of good non-verbal communication. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory copied this vid!!! D:<

How one’s action leads to misunderstanding
Working previously in the sports department for a private secondary school, 2007 turned out to be an unforgettable year for what my school swimming team and I have went through. We emerged champion of all secondary school in the state in the annual government organized swimming competition. All the hard work of preparing early and tremendous effort was awarded handsomely when lifting the overall champion trophy.
With all those in mind, out of the blues, I had the craziest idea. It was so sudden that I still can’t believe that I have actually managed to accomplish it. It came suddenly to be that since my swimmers and I were on a roll, why not we try to attempt our name in the Malaysia Book of Records? What I have planned initially was to create a record, the longest swimming relay. Later on I found out that there was already such a record, hence, the goal was to rewrite the record. The previous record holder was University Sains Malaysia. They had set a record of relay swimming for 50 hours non-stop by a group of 30 students. According to the rules of Malaysia Book of Records, to rewrite a record, we are to be in distinguish of 20% of the time limit. So, it meant 60hours of non-stop swimming for us.
To cut things short, I have little time to prepare a lot of things. By the end of it, we accomplished a new RECORD! 72 hours officially recognized by the judges of Malaysia Book of Records. We managed the feat with only 14 swimmers including me with each of us taking turns to swim 30minutes at each go. The local media featured us throughout the attempt and we were famous locally.
After all is done, it was about time for a mid year review of the school’s progress in all matters. What I have done for this record, was brought up in the school’s general meeting. Without doubt at all, praises came in waves. What was unexpected, I was complained and criticized by a minority of the colleagues. My intention was just to keep good events in a roll for our swimming team, and having tones of fun with my swimmers who had trained and sacrificed so much.
A list of what was criticized :
1) What is the meaning behind all this? I was said to be using the students to gain popularity and good impression for my personal benefits
2) I was wasting time and financial resources.
3) I was risking my swimmers academics as I used up most of their time for training sessions to prepare for the record attempt.
4) I was using the swimmers to pave the road for my future promotion, salary raise and bonuses pay.
It really shocked me. These things coming out from the mouth of teachers!!! Honestly, I was just planning to have fun and to create unforgettable memories for ourselves. My intentions were innocent, but yet, others who do not know me well, manage to derive to such claims.
Well, I hope this is not boring, relating my experience on how what I did, lead to misinterpretations of others which was hurtful for me.
P/S : give me sometime, I’ll upload some pictures of the record I mentioned ^^
Movie Review – Bride Wars

From the movie :
Interpersonal Communication
Liv (Kate Hudson) and Emma (Anne Hathaway) were VERY good friends, best of best friends. At any stage at all of their lives let it be childhood, adolescence years or adulthood, they were practically there for each other. As things went awry for their relationship, where they became rivals, they were up to the extend of not meeting or talking to each other anymore. At those moments, it was so obvious how both of them were attached to each other and how the absence of the other affected them throughout. As you are comfortable and that close with someone, self disclose tends to make it’s way to the peak. In the movie itself, both Liv and Emma were practically talking about anything on any subjects although their perspective over certain matters are sometimes in conflict. This even proves the point that self disclosures usually occurs in dyads.
Stages of Relational Development
Entering the second halve of the movie, where weddings preparation caused both to be married to couples to run on errands and chores for their big day, problems started to surface for Emma and her fiancé. They started to realize how each other’s decision or views over matters are different, and subsequently, trouble starts brewing for them. They were already at the bonding stage, where they are about to get married and spend the rest of their lives together. Towards the end of the movie, from bonding stage, they plunged straight down towards the bottom, the terminating stage. Their wedding was called off due to a lot of coincidence mishaps, and there and then, both Emma and her fiancé parted ways. It really breaks my heart at this part.
It’s a good movie to watch for the mentioned topics related to our subject human communication, at least in my point of view. Although it might seem to be a girl’s type of movie, guys: there is no harm in watching it, there’s no need to feel squishy or sissy about watching these kind of movies. Perhaps you might learn more about girls?
Cheers.
Fantasizing Relationships
Some say a relationship could start and grow from being friends or best of friends...like the lyrics from the song "lucky" by Jason Mraz and Colbie Cailat "lucky i'm in love with my best friend" :) anyway... we can't really say a person is really perfect for us. ..maybe from the start of the relationship, she/he could be your dream girl or guy but when the relationship starts to get long.. you'll know his or her true color especially when you're in the "maintaining relationship stage" you'll say "She's a nightmare!!!" or "He's not THE one!!!".
Some people get attracted with just a physical touch... some would even say " i felt the spark between us!" eventhough it's just their fingers that accidentally bumped to each other. :|
Some would get attracted by intellect or by the way one thinks. This applies when a person sounds smart for you or if anything he says makes any sense. BUT if he sounds different...or the way he reason out or speak is just A BIG blur to you then screw him... find another one!:)
Some would be attracted emotionally... of what he/she feels... but is it love? or just merely an infatuation?
lastely, some get attracted by their "common activity". People tend to get closer because of the same thing they're doing. like playing guitar together... having the same class with each other etc... :) (yeah!:) )
[[ but for SOME... ALL they do is FORCE other people just to be in a relationship with them! (well that's HARSH! right?), they would even crack the lamest / corny ice-breaker line or a pick-up line just to initiate a conversation... While others are just plain stubborn/ hard headed that keeps on pushing what they want.]]
anyway...In my opinion, a perfect someone doesnt exist... its all a fantasy or a wishful thinking for everyone to have hope or expect that someone "perfect" exist:)

I see DEAD PEOPLE

The child then self-discloses to a child psychologist and told him about his gift.
In relation to the movie, the child finds it hard to share his personal information to the child psychologist having in mind that the psychologist would make fun of him or call him a freak just like everyone else. But in the end, he was able to open up and thus, was helped by the psychologist.
Sometimes it is hard to open up or share to other people especially if we don't know them. Because of the fear that some people might think we're so random to just spill out anything you want to say.Sometimes, we are taken away by our emotions that's why we are able to self-disclose to other people... In the movie, seeing dead people is freaky and scary. You might not know they're dead already! Or some people would think you're psychotic if you see what other don't see...it a movie with thrill...ghosts that would make you want to sleep with the light on!:)

Self-Disclosure EveryDIE
Self-Disclosure is defined as the sharing of personal information with others and is intentional, important, and usually unknown to the other party. Once in a while, we just have to unload our thoughts and feelings to a certain someone. Our brains and hearts can only take so much that we have to share our emotions with other people. However, one does not keep sharing every personal detail about themselves to just about everyone! Believe ot or not, this has guidelines as well.
Firstly, before you share the color of your underwear (whoa! that rhymes), you must ask yourself the significance of the other person to you. Is he/she as important as your spouse, or just some guy/gal you met at a club? You have to make sure he/she is important to you and you trust him/her, coz this is your emotions and feelings we're talking about!
Secondly, think if this info you're about to drop on him/her is is reasonable. Does he/she have to know this? If so, what's its relevance? Then you have to know how much of the info you want to tell him/her. Should you state everything or just a trifle?
You also have to make sure that you get your share of dirt too. You can't just keep sharing stuff about yourself and let the other party gobble it up without them saying something about themselves. After your confession, you must ask them questions like, "so how's your job coming along?" or "What about you? getting some?"
Make sure what you said is constructive as well. Don't just keep blabbing and ruining everyone's lives. Try to find the relevance and purpose of what you're about to say before you say it.
Most importantly, always make sure what you just said is what you just said. Recall if what you disclosed is actually what you wanted to share and no exaggerated or extra stuff was added. This is important for the other party's answer or reply to your disclosure might be affected.
Yes. Make sure you follow these steps before you disclose anything to anyone. oh, and note, this is something that shouldn't be done ALL THE TIME. Once in a while is okay and appropriate. I believe that self-disclosure is very valuable and important, and if we keep doing it, it just looses its shine. It'll be an everyday thing and won't be special anymore. so yeah! Do it wisely!
Peace and Love :)>-

How To Know If You Are Close To A Chick
Anyway, I learned that you are close to someone if you both are "intimate." Intimacy is defined as familiar or simply put, "closeness" to someone. And Intimacy has some dimensions too! Yowza!
1) Physical
You are intimate with someone if you aren't afraid to hold or simply touch them. Nothing sexual, just a tap at the back or a simple high five. If there is a sense of awkwardness in the touching, then you need to get to know the person more and learn to be more comfortable with him/her.
2) Intellectual
If both of you have developed the same wavelength of humor, and sometimes the stupidest things turn out to be the funniest and most obvious, then you guys are indeed intimate! As long as you understand the person clearly and aren't afraid to rebut him/her, consider yourselves close.
3) Emotional
This works out only if both of you shared your own personal feelings and actually relate to them. One does not share his/her personal feelings to someone unless he/she is comfortable with the other person.
4) Shared Activities
If both of you enjoy what you are doing such as reading, playing guitar, writing, playing chess, dancing, and maybe even studying Human Com, and feel this certain correlation, then you are indeed intimate. Humans are relational beings and we all (sometimes) need a certain someone to
have some fun.
YEY! I can sleep now! Peace and Love :)>-
Gestures and Sign Languages
Moving on, have you ever wondered how it will be like if you are deaf or mute? In the process of this group work, I really find it hard to understand certain gestures without asking it. Even by shooting it, everyone around was wondering what are these lunatics doing? I saw a whole lot of different facial expressions related to that. Working on the project itself made me realize how crucial and how true it is of 65% of communication stands out. Although just by viewing it might not explain all, I am sure most of us are able to roughly interpret what is going on in the movie clip.
The thought of unable to speak really gave me the scares, and how will this world end up without verbal communication at certain aspects. A lot of things would be in chaos.
So, let’s just sit back and relax and get our popcorns ready for Tuesday’s special show!!!
Intrapersonal communication in written form
Perhaps for many others in general, writing a diary might just seem to be things that only girls would do. That is just on the surface. One of the best things I enjoy about writing a diary is, it provides you the time to reflect on yourself throughout your daily activities or life most importantly.
When you are writing a diary, to my personal opinion, that is when you are alone and reflecting back things you might have done right or wrong, truthful or dishonest towards yourself or others in a day or a week or a month. Looking at the bright side, writing a diary is a way to release certain stress and discomfort live brings upon us.
A lot of things, sometimes dark secrets are not easily disclosed even to your closest friend. Keeping a secret brings a lot of stress. Or another example, some small little achievement that means a lot to you, but telling it to others will end up being a laughing stock to them. By writing it down, you are actually motivating and giving yourself the recognition of a job well done over some matters.
Everyone needs a pat on the back from time to time, and keeping a diary, is definitely one of the best way to get the ‘pat’. Furthermore, as we age, these could somehow be the lessons of life which money cannot buy. Communicating interpersonally occurs towards everyone, even those that are mentally ill!
In conclusion, I only see the benefits of keeping a diary, even if in future there appears to be disadvantages, I am sure the benefits outweigh the cons.
P/S : just a tip : keep your diary safe and secured all times!!! You don’t want personal matters being rumored around.
Never Back Down

In this movie, Jake didn't back down or run away, he fought till he can no longer stand. the Conflict between Jake and Ryan gave and released negative energy around them, thus making them fight till the end. Conflicts about a girl, kickboxing and most especially one's reputation revolved around two men; therefore triggered their anger making them wanting to be the best. None of them walked away or gave in making them fight till the end.
Women over 40
Although the discussion/ debate was heating up. We were able to release a positive talking environment around us. We didn't end up with a conflict but rather a knowledgeable, peaceful environment. A de-escalatory conflict spiral. We exchange positive conversation thus had a fruitful result:)
Here are some ideas Andy Rooney said about 40 yr. old women:
- A woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night and ask, 'What are you thinking?’ She doesn't care what you think.
- Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a woman over 40.
- Older women are forthright and honest. They'll tell you right off if you are a jerk, if you are
acting like one. You don't ever have to wonder where you stand with her. - For all those men who say, 'Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free? Here's an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage. Why? because women realize it's not worth buying an entire pig just to get a little sausage!:)

The Beatles Butcher Shot

Perception is the system where one notices and interprets data about people, events, activities, and situations. Or in this case... album covers... But when you come to think of it, this shot does raise the hair of some Common Perceptual Tendencies... It is quite intense and a lot of people favor negative impressions. This album was looked down upon too much for it did not follow the social rules at that time.
We should always remember that The Beatles didn't intend for this album to upset anyone. They just wanted something different and unique. It's a shame the fans' perception on the idea was very negative.
At the same day the album was released, it was recalled due to objections from some consumers. It was later reinstated with a new cover pasted on the previous cover.

mmmm... if you ask me, I prefer the first one. It's more revolutionary!

Small Group Communication
Upon arrival, we were divided into groups. Each group randomly consists of 8 to 9 individuals. With such ‘luck’, I was again randomly selected as the group leader.
As a group leader, I was more of playing the roles of and Initiator and Contributor. Basically, my main roles was to get briefed for tasks given ahead and initiate cheers for ourselves whenever time suits.
The rest of my group, had members with few types of characteristics of a group member. For my group, I had Opinion Givers, Supporters/Encouragers, Gatekeepers, Tension Relievers. In summary, my team had it all to be a perfect team.
From the varies of activities in this 3 days, our group BONDED together. Even though we started off mainly as strangers to each other, each and everyone of us portrayed their own roles in being a group member.
And of course, with suitable and sufficient of roles in the group, our group managed to finish each raced activities among the top 3 out of 8 groups. We had consistency, teamwork, being organized and systematic, cheerful and high-spirited and most of all, each of us went home with a lesson well learnt.
In my personal opinion, a group is only as strong as its weakest link, and ONLY through communication and the need to perform each roles and duties are we only to be able to see the RESULTS of a group effort. To me, the best way to communicate in a group is by applying the ALL-CHANNEL NETWORK and at appropriate time using the WHEEL NETWORK.
An aspect of Mutual Respects fusion with Intrapersonal Communication
We were to enter the forest during daytime and nighttime for certain outdoor activities. But before these activities were conducted, each and everyone was STRICLY briefed on the do’s and don’t’s while you are in the forest. Among them are :
a) Do not call your friends name while you are in the forest.
b) Do not relieve yourselves as you like in the forest, you are suppose to say ‘ Excuse me” before you start relieving if it is a case of emergency.
c) Enter the forest with respect for it, leaving it as original as it is as you came in. This covers up aspects of not to litter when you are in the forest, and not to take things as souvenirs from the forest itself as those do not belong to us.
d) It is advisable at the moment you are to leave the forest, you should say “Sampai sinilah Datuk”(it means that “this is as far as you come with me sir”).
Those few examples above are just some basic simple rules or restrictions of the forest. Basically, we are to communicate in a way never before towards a ‘spiritual world”. Failing to do so as mentioned, we were likened to have offended the spirits of the forest itself. Scientifically, it is not proven of such existence of spirits or ghost etc, but yet, here we are living in the 21st century, we are doing so. It is not a matter of argument as we are just expected to follow as told as there was such off cases.
This mutual respect for the forest and the spiritual world living inside somehow causes the rules and guidelines to be formed. This sort of communication are to be intrapersonal as you voice things out in your head and you do not WISH to HEAR a REPLY while you are in a forest.
signals
Another, signals could also be seen in a "getting to know" stage in a relationship. When a guy likes a girl, more likely he shows positive signals like his pupils dilate while looking at her, looking at her and not staring her down! Same goes for girls, positive signals could convey that they feel the same way; therefore also returning a positive signal to the opposite sex.
signals are seen everywhere. It falls in the category of non verbal communication... thus individuals are responsible for interpreting it. But some signals are studied like rules, hand signals in a game. you can't just shout "time out!" in a game knowing that your voice is competing with the voice of the crowd so people us their hands to form a "T" and waving it around plus, signals can catch people's attention easily. :)

Lost Generation...
I am part of a lost generation
and I refuse to believe that
I can change the world
I realize this may be a shock but
“Happiness comes from within.”
is a lie, and
“Money will make me happy.”
So in 30 years I will tell my children
they are not the most important thing in my life
My employer will know that
I have my priorities straight because
work
is more important than
family
I tell you this
Once upon a time
Families stayed together
but this will not be true in my era
This is a quick fix society
Experts tell me
30 years from now, I will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of my divorce
I do not concede that
I will live in a country of my own making
In the future
Environmental destruction will be the norm
No longer can it be said that
My peers and I care about this earth
It will be evident that
My generation is apathetic and lethargic
It is foolish to presume that
There is hope.
And all of this will come true unless we choose to reverse it .
There is hope.
It is foolish to presume that
My generation is apathetic and lethargic
It will be evident that
My peers and I care about this earth
No longer can it be said that
Environmental destruction will be the norm
In the future
I will live in a country of my own making
I do not concede that

Jonathan Reed wrote about the generation we are in and what we can do about it.
An art of language is seen. the structure in this art when read backwards will be different from the way you normally read it, meaning when a structure of a language is changed, it could totally give a different meaning just like "The Lost Generation". :)
...so which generation do you belong in?

interpersonal communication...
Male and female intimacy style often depends on culture influences… some males have their own styles as well as female. Past generations, females are more reserved than males. Men usually make the first move but as the generation passes by…women became more like the aggressive ones (this is base from my opinion :) ) rather than males. We could see in today’s generation that some women are the ones who are courting the men. Women are known to be emotional, maybe because when they are emotional they let it out unlike guys who just keep it in themselves but for me men and women are both emotional, it’s just that woman are more “showy” than man. People sometimes especially Chinese, are quite strict when it comes in a relationship. Some Chinese are required to find another Chinese as their partner base on their culture.
Interpersonal communication could be done face –to-face or with the help of internet enhanced communication. Some people think it’s easy if communication is done using the internet while others think that communication to that person face-to-face is much more important since you can see his or her reaction. For some, people like it when they are confronted face to face so they can see their facial expression or reaction.
Like an interview. Most interviews are done face-to-face so that people can see how you react on certain things. It could show how serious you are or motivated you are base on your facial expressions.
interpersonal communication could sometimes be awkward if you don't know each other. it could turn out to be impersonal rather than interpersonal.
